The RE Department celebrated ‘World Religions Week’ on 12th – 16th March. Along with our usual ‘World Religions’ themed classrooms, we were privileged with the company of a variety of guest speakers. Year 8 classes were treated to a Passover meal with Naomi Shaw, a member of the Orthodox Jewish Community, which tied in perfectly with their learning on ‘The People of God’. Our Sixth Form classes had the pleasure of Rev. Chris Howson, the Anglican Chaplain to Sunderland University, who shared his expertise and passion for Liberation Theology, which is part of the RS A level syllabus. Fr. Phil Cunnah inspired Year 7 pupils sharing his personal story of faith and public ministry as a Catholic Priest. Cloud Singh, a member of the North East Sikh Community, spent a joy filled day with us in the Department, enlightening staff and students throughout the day. Lunchtimes have been filled with a Taize prayer service, inspirational films and some wonderful pupils leading us in their traditional Indian dance. We have been enriched in the knowledge of other faiths and blessed by the company of those involved.
