A Taste Of Syria

More than 150 people from the local community gathered together in the JC Hall, on Saturday 13th May, for an evening of food, dance and fellowship, organised by Darlington Association for Refugees (DAR). Carmel were proud hosts of this event which was an opportunity for the Syrian refugee families to say a heartfelt thank you for the warm welcome they have been given by the people of Darlington. A total of £640 was raised for ‘The White Helmets’ a charity working in Syria which the families themselves chose to support. The Syrian families took great pride in preparing a feast of delicious Syrian food which wowed the senses. We were treated further with performances of traditional Syrian dance and poetry which was both a delight and deeply moving to see these people of Syria so full of joy.
